France AN13-M 5 francs
This specimen was lot 4666 in Goldberg sale 69 (Los Angeles, May, 2012), where it sold for $1,121.25. The catalog description [2] noted, "France. 5 Francs, AN 13-M (Toulouse). Napoleon I. Bare head right. Attractive light tone. PCGS graded AU-55." This issue, from the Toulouse mint, is a common date of a type struck An 13-14 (1804-06). This type succeeded the "PREMIER CONSUL" obverse struck AN XI-12. A complete set of this type comprises 27 date and mintmark combinations, some very rare. The entire production run totaled about 10 million pieces. All silver five francs were officially recalled in 1928 but ceased to circulate after World War I. This coin was legal tender in the United States until 1857 at a value of 93 cents.
