Sed50-0668o.jpg

This specimen was lot 668 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 8 reales, 1760 Y-q-(V), very rare, ex-Mastalir. Chunky flan showing full pillars with full and clear date, partial Y at upper right and q at bottom left (the V to right of cross not visible but known from another example), very rare "triple assayer" final issue of Ferdinand VI followed by V-Y under Charles III in the same year (see 1985 monograph by Carlos Janson in Cuadernos de Numismática y Ciencias Históricas), off-center cross, XF+ with light sediment on fields, flat peripheries with typical surface roughness (as made). Pedigreed to the Roberto Mastalir Collection, with his tag." This type was struck for Ferdinand VI 1747-60. By this date, Mexico, Nuevo Reino, Guatemala, Santiago and Lima were striking pillar dollars.

Recorded mintage: unknown.
