This specimen was lot 71117 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Baden. 2 Mark, 1902. Karlsruhe Mint. Friedrich I. NGC MS-65. Struck to commemorate the 50th year of reign, this Gem minor radiates with tremendous luster and features a nearly completely argent, blast white appearance." This commemorative was saved and is today quite a bit more available than the regular issue of 1902 (KM 272). It accompanied a similar five mark (Dav-934).
Recorded mintage: 375,018 + 5,368 of KM 269 (bust left) + 198,250 of (bust right).
Specification: 11.11 g, .900 fine silver, reeded edge.
