This specimen was lot 3390 in Sincona sale 19 (Zürich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 4,250 (about US$5,326 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1 Franc AN XI (1800). Selten. Sehr schön. (rare, very fine.)" This type was struck ANXI and AN12 only and represents the first franc struck under the new French decimal coinage system. Previous years (AN4-AN10) had seen only silver five francs issued. This Geneva mint issue is very rare.
Recorded mintage: 12,631[2].
Specification: 23 mm diameter, 5 grams, 0.900 fine silver, decorated edge. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819. This specimen 4.96 g.
