This specimen was lot 4070 in Goldberg sale 67 (Los Angeles, January 2012), where it sold for $172.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "German States - Bavaria. Taler, 1782-AS. Karl Theodor. Bust right. Reverse: Crowned oval shield. Heavily tooled on both sides. About Very Fine." We have included the Davenport number in the page title as at least four different thalers were issued in Bavaria during 1782, of which this type, minted at Mannheim 1778-95, is the rarest.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, .751 troy oz ASW.
