Pfalz 1784-AS 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 155 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €320 (about US$431 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BAYERN, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1623 KURFÜRSTENTUM, Karl Theodor, 1777-1799. 1/2 Konv.-Taler 1784, Mannheim, für die Rheinpfalz. Vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Bavaria, Charles Theodore, 1777-99, half convention thaler of 1784, Mannheim mint, for the Palatinate. Extremely fine.)"
This type, struck 1783-93, all with mintmaster AS, has a substantial catalog value. Karl Theodor was originally count of the Palatinate and ascended to the electorate on the death of his cousin.
