Sincona sale 90, lot 1586

This specimen was lot 1586 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 10,000 CHF (about US$13,214 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Ferdinand III. 1637-1657. 2 Dukaten 1648, Wien. Münzmeister Johann Conrad Richthausen. Sehr selten. PCGS MS62. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand III, 1637-57, double ducat of 1648, Vienna mint. Very rare, graded PGGS MS-62.)"

This type was struck 1641-57 but is quite a bit most costly than the Prague double ducats of Ferdinand III (Fr-46j).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.98 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 6.91 g.

Catalog reference: KM 899 (formerly KM 1844), Herinek 129, Fr-231.
