Sincona sale 90, lot 1589

This specimen was lot 1589 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 60,000 CHF (about US$79,284 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Ferdinand III. 1637-1657. 2 Dukaten 1657, Prag. Münzmeister Christoph Margalik. Sehr selten. NGC UNC Details. Kleiner Fleck auf dem Avers entfernt. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand III, 1637-57, double ducat of 1657, Prague mint. Very rare, Small spot removed on obverse.)"

This type was struck 1641-57 but is expensive despite the many years of production. It was formerly listed by Friedberg under Austria. This example realized 36 times the catalog value.
