Austria 1648-M thaler Dav-3190
This specimen was lot 30272 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $4,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Taler, 1648-M. Graz Mint. Ferdinand III. NGC MS-64. The first date in a six-year run, this elegant and incredibly impressive near-Gem yields quality in the type that is RARELY seen. The surfaces are mostly light gray throughout, with some alluring hints of champagne and a resounding amount of luster. Not surprisingly, tied with just two others for the top spot in the NGC census. From the Augustana Collection." This type was struck at Graz 1648-54 and is fairly common. Other thalers for 1648 include Dav-3174, Dav-3177, Dav-3179, Dav-3205 and Dav-3216.
