This specimen was lot 21494 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Ruble, 1829-CПБ HГ. NGC MS-61. Well struck with little noteworthy handling and entirely captivating radiance over the surfaces." This type was struck 1826-31 in reasonable quantities but is today very rare in nice condition. The preceding type (Dav-281) is very similar but with a "wings up" eagle. The incumbent mintmaster was Nikolai Grachev, whose initials we have transliterated as "NG".
Recorded mintage: 5,510,000.
Specification: 20.73 g, 0.868 fine silver.
