Jean Elsen sale 144, lot 1462

This specimen was lot 1462 in Jean Elsen sale 144 (Brussels, March 2020), where it sold for €50 (about US$66 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIE, Nicolas Ier (1825-1855), AR 25 kopecks, 1829HΓ. Beau à Très Beau. (empire of Russia, Nicholas I, 1825-55, silver 25 kopeks of 1829, Fine - Very Fine.)"

This type was struck 1827-31 at St. Petersburg. Mintages are fairly substantial but this type is likely underpriced. The superseding type (KM C166) had a "wings up" eagle. The incumbent mintmaster was Nikolai Grachev, whose initials we have transliterated as "NG".

Recorded mintage: 1,200,000.

Specification: 5.18 g, 0.868 fine silver.
