The first specimen was lot 52039 in Heritage Auctions sale 440 (Long Beach, May 2007), where it sold for $460. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Ferdinand VII silver 2 Reales 1813-M GJ, MS65 NGC, a sensational looking Gem Uncirculated coin, graced by 100% original surfaces having a lustrous and rich silvery frost with golden hues, softly struck on the date and on the reverse crown above the shield (which however is sharply struck!), several lines through the portrait that appear to be pre-striking adjustments to the silver weight. While the production ability at the Madrid Mint at this time (during the Napoleonic Wars) was less than modern, the quality of this gorgeous coin remains outstanding: symbolic of its age in the finest possible way. Unpriced in Krause above XF grade."
This type was struck in Madrid 1814-33, in Seville 1815-33 and in Cadiz 1810-12. As Spanish minors were lower in fineness than contemporary Latin American issues, they were discounted in international trade.
