This specimen was lot 996 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $2,530. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Elisabeth, 1741-1761. 2 Rubles, 1756. No mintmark. Crowned bust r. Rv. Imperial eagle. Boldly struck and detailed. Choice Very Fine." The other date listed for this type is 1758. It was accompanied by gold half (Fr-118) and one rubles (Fr-116). Catherine the Great had a few two ruble pieces struck but they were only 2.61 grams.

Recorded mintage: 53,000.

Specification: 3.24 g, 0.917 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW.
