Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 43337
SB825-43337r.jpg

This specimen was lot 43337 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Consulate. Demi-Franc (1/2 Franc), Year 12-BB (1803/4). Strasbourg Mint. Napoleon as First Consul. PCGS AU-53. Tied with just one other as the sole representatives of the type in the PCGS census, this near-Mint example displays some charming toning, all while exhibiting very little in the way of circulation. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Münzen und Medaillen in 1996 for $259). Ex: Theodore Voltz Collection (Münzen und Medaillen - 3/1996) Lot # 684." Of the silver denominations of the franc Germinal, the half francs is moderately common but the branch mint issues tend to be rare. This type was struck years XI and 12 only and Paris ("A") and Limoges ("I") are the most common mints.

Recorded mintage: 2,125, a scarce date, plus 1,825 of the EMPEREUR type (F.174/2).

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, 27 mm diameter, decorated edge.

Catalog reference: KM-648.2; Gad-394; F.173/3.
