Sincona sale 98, lot 4588

This specimen was lot 4588 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 650 CHF (about US$943 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zug, Stadt und Kanton, Halbtaler 1622, Zug. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. (Switzerland, city and canton of Zug, half thaler of 1622, Zug mint. Rare, Good Very Fine.)"

The canton of Zug was not a prolific issuer of coinage and most of its issues were minors such as dreikreuzer and dickens. This half thaler of 1620-22, tho not common, is the only half thaler issued by this canton not extremely rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown but the better date.

Specifications: silver, this specimen 13.84 g.
