Sincona sale 78, lot 304

This specimen was lot 304 in Sincona sale 78 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 150 CHF (about US$180 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Catherine II. 1762-1796, Grivennik 1766, Red Mint. Very rare. 10 roubles according to Petrov. About very fine. Flan flaws." This is the scarcest of the three dates produced, 1764-66. The St. Petersburg mint also struck this denomination in silver (KM 61a.3), which product is much more available.

Recorded mintage: 41,000.

Specification: 2.37 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 2.48 g.

Catalog reference: KM C61.1, Bitkin 173 (R2).
