Jean Elsen sale 151, lot 1827

This specimen was lot 1827 in Jean Elsen sale 151 (Brussels, June 2022), where it sold for €550 (about US$687 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA, People's Republic (1949-), AV 100 yuan, 1990. Emperor Zhu Yuan Zhang. In wooden lacquered case. Encapsulated. With certificate. Proof." This NCLT is one of a series honoring great figures in Chinese history. Regarding Zhu Yuan Zhang, Wikipedia comments, "The Hongwu Emperor (21 October 1328 – 24 June 1398), personal name Zhu Yuanzhang (Chinese: 朱元璋; Wade–Giles: Chu Yuan-chang), courtesy name Guorui (simplified Chinese: 国瑞; traditional Chinese: 國瑞), was the founding emperor of the Ming dynasty, reigning from 1368 to 1398."
