Sincona sale 76, lot 1030

This specimen was lot 1030 in Sincona sale 76 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 7,000 CHF (about US$8,497 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DENMARK. Friedrich III. 1648-1670. Speciesdaler 1667, Kopenhagen. Mit der Signatur FCH (Frederik Caspar Herbach, Münzmeister in Kopenhagen, 1664-1667). Sehr selten. Gutes vorzüglich. NGC AU58. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (kingdom of Denmark, Frederick III, 1648-70, speciedaler of 1667, Copenhagen mint, mintmaster FCH. Very rare, Good extremely fine, Magnificent condition.)"

The SCWC lists numerous speciedalers for 1667, including KM 287, KM 288, 289, 290 (shown here), 291, 292. We don't know why there are so many varieties; all are rare to very rare.

Specification: 28.77 g, 0.875 fine silver, this specimen 28.93 g.
