This specimen was part of lot 22838 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), which sold for $632.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Grouping of Twelve Uncirculated Coins, British India ...British India 1/4 Anna 1862 ...All coins very choice examples." This type was struck at Madras, Bombay and Calcutta in numerous varieties for India with a frozen date until 1874, when normal dating resumed. The Calcutta, Bombay and Madras issues can only be distinguished by their diameters.

Recorded mintage: 99,504,000 from Calcutta, 32,149,000 from Bombay and 186,227,000 from Madras.

Specification: 6.14 g, copper, 25.18 mm diameter.
