The first specimen was lot 1409 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 1/2 Anna Restrike, 1862. NGC PL-65 RD. Bust type A." The second specimen was lot 38682 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[2] noted, "INDIA. 1/2 Anna, 1862-(C). Calcutta Mint. Victoria. NGC MS-62 Brown. Type A/1." This type was issued at Madras, Calcutta and Bombay 1862 and 1875-76 in a bewildering array of varieties, including proofs, off-metal strikes and restrikes. The type is not rare but is infrequently seen compared to the smaller coppers. It is distinguished from the type issued 1877-1901 by the obverse legend, "VICTORIA QUEEN" instead of "VICTORIA EMPRESS."

Recorded mintage: 7,236,000 plus more from Bombay and Madras. The products of the three mints are distinguishable by their diameter, the Calcutta product being 31.3 mm diameter.

Specification: 12.7 g, copper, 31.3 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-468; Mitchiner-2000; S&W-4.151; Prid-576.
