This specimen was lot 30754 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "Louis XIV gold Louis d'or 1694-A AU55 PCGS, Paris mint. Reused Flan. Premium quality, with most of the previous coin disappearing due to a bold strike. Worthy of a premium as such." This type, known as a ''louis d'or aux 4 L,'' was struck in [[France]] 1693-1700, mostly over older coins. Twenty-four mints contributed in 1694.
