Heritage sale 3081, lot 30373
Cuba H3081-30373r.jpg

This specimen was lot 30373 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $3,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cuba, Republic gold Proof "First Train in Cuba" 100 Pesos 1989 PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC, Commemorating the 150th anniversary of the first Cuban railway. Brilliant Proof, practically as-made and from a striking of just 150 pieces." The year 1989 saw the release of many self-congratulatory NCLT's by the regime along with such essentially Cuban topics as the fall of the Bastille and the first Spanish railway. Greeted by disinterest from the world at large, many are now rare.

Recorded mintage: 150 proofs.

Specification: 31.10 g, 0.999 fine gold, 1.000 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 318, Fr-29.
