Sincona sale 76, lot 1466

This specimen was lot 1466 in Sincona sale 76 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 700 CHF (about US$850 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. 1/2 Konventionstaler 1767, Hall. Mit der Signatur AS (Ludwig Aschpacher, Münzmeister in Hall, und Johann Joseph Stockner, Wardein in Hall, 1765-1767). Vorzüglich-FDC. NGC MS61. Feine Patina. (Austria, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, half convention thaler of 1767, Hall mint. Extremely fine-uncirculated, Nicely toned.)"

This type was struck at Hall 1766-77 and is fairly common. Similar half thalers were struck for Maria THeresia at Vienna (KM 1846, KM 1864, KM 1867).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 14.03 g, 0.833 fine silver, this specimen 13.99 g.

Catalog reference: KM 1848, Moser/Tursky 1018. Herinek 660.
