Sincona sale 51, lot 2322

This specimen was lot 2322 in Sincona sale 51 (Zurich, October 2018), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$217 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1/16 Dukat o. J. (1700). Münzmeisterzeichen: Kreuz. Lammdukat. FDC. (Germany, city of Nurnberg, undated 1/16 ducat, with cross privy mark. "Lamb" ducat. Uncirculated.)"

This type was struck starting in 1700 and tho not cheap, is more available than other Nurnberger ducats of the eighteenth century. Fractional ducats including 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 and 1/32 were also issued. This type frequently appears in choice uncirculated, adding to its popularity.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.22 g, .986 fine gold, this specimen 0.24 g.

Catalog reference: Kellner 100. Fr-1895; KM 248.
