Sincona sale 9, lot 4167

This specimen was lot 4167 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$759 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Weimarer Republik 5 Reichsmark 1930, Berlin. Weltrundflug des Luftschiffs "Graf Zeppelin". Polierte Platte. FDC. (Germany, Weimar Republic, five reichsmark of 1930, Berlin mint, on the world flight of the "Graf Zeppelin," proof.)"

This type is not rare but still expensive. The Graf Zeppelin was grounded in 1937, after the loss of the Hindenburg, and was scrapped in 1940.

Recorded mintage: 217,000 plus a few proofs.

Specification: 25 g, 0.500 fine silver, 37 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: J. 343. KM 68, Dav-972.
