SB222-74029r.jpg

This specimen was lot 74029 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, 1696. This type was struck 1695-97 with numerous mintmarks under the great recoinage supervised by Isaac Newton which finally retired all the hammered coinage dating from before the Civil War.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.02 g, 0.925 fine silver.

Catalog reference: S-3497; KM-485.1; ESC-1078.
