This specimen was lot 72340 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Crown, 1696-B. Bristol Mint. William III. NGC VF Details--Cleaned. Specialists will delight with this seldom encountered opportunity. A slight unnatural flatness to the surfaces accounts for the designation, but all areas have since retoned with rich charcoal and umber patina. Moderate circulation hardly hinders ample visible detail." This type of 1696-97 was issued from many branch mints. This specimen comes from Bristol.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 15.05 g, 0.925 fine silver.

Catalog reference: S-3476; SC-535.
