This specimen was lot 30895 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $940. The catalog description[1] noted, "William III Shilling 1696-N MS63 NGC, Norwich mint, First bust. Featuring an attractively-styled portrait of William III with 'N' below designating the Norwich mint. The surfaces are evenly patinated in olive-gray, however, upon rotation, the fields erupt in opalescent shades of gold and honeydew. Relatively free of any noteworthy marks, and as such, seemingly choice for the assigned grade. Presently the finest-certified example of the type." This type of 1696-97 was issued from many branch mints. This specimen comes from Norwich.
