from the Stack's Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 22263
Canada SB818-22263r.jpg

This specimen was lot 22263 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 100 Dollars, 2000. PCGS PROOF-69 DEEP CAMEO Secure Holder. Struck to commemorate McClure's Arctic expedition in the Northwest Passage. Includes certificate of authenticity serial #05373." The profits extracted from the manufacture and sale of NCLT's caused the Royal Canadian Mint to scramble for ever more arcane topics, including this honoring McClure's Arctic expedition in the Northwest Passage. We don't know why the mint chose to use 14 K gold for this series.

Recorded mintage: unknown but at least 5,373.

Specification: 13.34 g, 0.583 fine gold, .250 troy oz AGW, 27 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: Fr-49; KM-402.
