This specimen was lot 20877 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $3,450. The catalog description[1] noted, "Louis XV gold Louis d'Or 1743G, MS61 NGC, scarce Poitiers mint, older portrait of the king. A difficult coin to locate in any grade, (mintage of just 6,019), and bordering on rare in mint state. Extremely lustrous example." Droulers[2] gives this date a premium of only 10% over the common date (1753-A) as few attempt to collect this type, struck 1740-70, by date.
Recorded mintage: 6,019.
Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Röettiers.
Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 801, Dr/2 № 543, KM 513.8.
