Sincona sale 38, lot 1303

This specimen was lot 1303 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,199 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Louis XV. 1715-1774 Louis dor au bandeau 1743 &. Aix. Gutes vorzüglich. Min. Randfehler. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-74, gold louis of the ribbon of 1743, Aix mint. Good extremely fine, Minor rim nick.)"

This type was struck 1740-70 and is common as French gold coins go and this is a common date.

Recorded mintage: 161,085, a common date[2].

Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Röettiers, this specimen 8.19 g.
