Jean Elsen sale 149, lot 1167

This specimen was lot 1167 in Jean Elsen sale 149 (Brussels, December 2021), where it sold for €270 (about US$366 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ALLEMAGNE, BRUNSWICK-CALENBERG, Ernst August (1679-1698), AR 2/3 Taler, 1682, Zellerfeld. Belle patine. Très Beau à Superbe. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg, Ernest Augustus, 1679-98, silver two-thirds thaler of 1682, Zellerfeld mint. Nice patina, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck 1680-93 but despite the extensive production, it has a high catalog value. Another two-thirds thaler exists with a leaping stallion design (KM 263, mintmaster "HB"), struck 1680-84.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 14,69 g.

Catalog reference: KM 262.1, Welter 1970; Dav-394.
