This specimen was lot 73280 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Calenberg. 2/3 Taler, 1683. Zellerfeld Mint. Ernst August, as Bishop of Osnabrück. PCGS AU-55. Quite captivating and elegant, this near-Mint survivor presents a great depiction of the wildman along with attractive, robust toning upon each side. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1680-93. There is also KM 263, with a leaping stallion, dated 1683-HB.
