This specimen was lot 71443 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. Quart de Franc (1/4 Franc), 1807/6-I. Limoges Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS EF-40. A fairly SCARCE overdate issue, though certified as Bayonne Mint (L), this is actually Limoges (I), as it can be determined based upon the shaking hands différent. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Glendining's in 1964 for $1). Ex: Glendining's (10/1964) Lot # 1058 (part of)." This type was struck 1806-07 with eleven different date-mintmark combinations, of which the 1806-A is the only one at all common. In 1806 the French revolutionary calendar was dropped and normal AD dating resumed. It is possible that all of the 1807-I's are the 1807/6 overdate.
Recorded mintage: 8,344sup>[2], a scarce date.
Specification: 1.25 grams, 0.900 fine silver, 15 mm diameter, decorated edge. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
