Sincona sale 91, lot 3483

This specimen was lot 3483 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 1,800 CHF (about US$2,379 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Solothurn, Duplone 1796, Solothurn. Schräg geriffelter Rand. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Switzerland, canton of Solothurn, duplone of 1796, Solothurn mint, obliquely reeded edge. Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1796-98, along with quarter, half and double duplones. Several of the cantons, including Basel, Luzern and Bern, struck duplones in the 1790's.
