Sincona sale 63, lot 1612

This specimen was lot 1612 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 475 CHF (about US$595 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Joseph II. 1765-1790. 6 Kreuzer 1787 H, Günzburg. PCGS MS65."

A search of Coin Archives reveals specimens ranging from 1787 to 1805. The reverse legend, "VORD:OEST·SCHEID·MUNZ·", means "Local coinage for Further Austria," i.e., the lands still held by the Hapsburgs in upper Swabia. One and three kreuzer were also issued. All of these lands were seized by Napoleon in 1806 and handed over to Baden, Wurttemberg and Bavaria. Some in the imperial administration wanted to take them back at the Congress of Vienna in 1815 but prince Metternich vetoed the idea and they remain part of Germany today.
