Stack's Bowers 2021 ANA sale, lot 44041

This specimen was lot 44041 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Further Austria. 1/2 Kreuzer, 1789-H. Günzburg Mint. Josef II. NGC MS-63 Brown. A pleasing, boldly struck coin with satiny luster and even, dark brown patina. Further Austria, a possession of the House of Habsburg, was an area in South Swabia that was later broken into Baden and Bavaria." Günzburg was in the Austrian Burgau, now part of Bavaria. The SCWC listings for Burgau shown a similar half kreuzer (KM 7) struck for Maria Theresia. The SCWC lists the coinage struck after Maria Theresia's death in 1780 under Germany, Further Austria, and notes this type was also struck in 1784.
