Künker sale 354, lot 5682

This specimen was lot 5682 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabruck, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €260 (about US$362 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Georg I. Ludwig, 1698-1714. 12 Mariengroschen 1711, Zellerfeld. Ohne Titel als Erzschatzmeister. RR Sehr schön +. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Schulten + Co. Köln, Oktober 1988, Nr. 1863 ("Es ist nur das Exemplar im Kestner-Museum bekannt"). (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, George Louis, 1698-1714, twelve mariengroschen of 1711, Zellerfeld mint, without treasurer's title in obverse legend. Very rare, very fine or better.)"

This type was struck 1712-15 while George was merely elector of Hannover. In 1714, he succeeded to the throne of Britain. Twelve mariengroschen = one third of a thaler.
