This specimen was lot 21703 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 4 Escudos, 1593-S B. Seville Mint. Philip II. NGC AU-55. Typically short of flan, the realization of the arms on this example are nonetheless excellent as are the date and assayer." Four escudos were struck for Philip II at Seville, Toledo, Valencia, Valladolid, Madrid, Burgos and Barcelona. The earliest one with a date is known from 1587. Seville struck this type 1589-94 and 1597.
