Revision as of 08:57, 19 October 2021
This specimen was lot 2017 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabruck, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €320 (about US$445 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NÜRNBERG, STADT, 1/4 Dukat 1700 (spätere Prägung nach 1764). Lammprägung. GOLD. Leicht gewellt, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Nuremberg, quarter ducat of 1700, later restrike, Paschal lamb. Slightly wavy, very fine to extremely fine.)"
In 1700, the city issued a series of Paschal Lamb gold coins ranging from 1/32 ducat to five ducats, both in round and klippe (square) format. They were very popular as religious souvenirs and were extensively saved, making them common today. Some were restruck later to fill the demand.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 0.88 g, .986 fine gold, this specimen 0,86 g.
