France 1807U 5 francs rev 600.jpg

Shown is a Napoleonic five francs struck at the Turin mint (mint mark "U") in 1807. It is a very rare date. The Turin mint struck French coins 1804-13 only, after which it resumed striking Italian (Sardinian) designs. The various designs of Napoleonic five francs form eight distinct types of which this is the fifth, struck 1806-07 with a complete set of this type comprising 23 date and mintmark combinations, some very rare. This date is priced[1] about four and a half times the common date (1806A).

Specification: 37 mm diameter, 25 grams, 0.900 fine silver, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.

Recorded Mintage: 29,468[1], 30,000[2].

Catalog reference: F.304/22, KM 673.12, Dav-83.
