Künker Auction 440, lot 3543

This specimen was lot 3543 in Künker sale 440 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €400 (about US$550 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Friedrich II. (I.), 1797-1806-1816. 20 Kreuzer 1810. Stempelschneider Johann Ludwig Wagner. Mit kleinem Kopf und kleinem Wappenschild. Vorzüglich +. Privat erworben. (kingdom of Württemberg, Frederick I, 1806-16, twenty kreuzer of 1810. with small bare head and small arms. Extremely fine or better.)"

This twenty kreuzer was struck 1810-12. Another twenty kreuzer with a uniformed bust (KM 501) was also struck in 1810. One convention thaler was 120 kreuzer. Frederick, who ascended the throne of Württemberg as a duke, was promoted to king by Napoleon in 1806. He did quite well out of Napoleon's reorganization of Germany and found his realm doubled in size. A timely switching of sides allowed him to keep his gains at the Congress of Vienna.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.68 g, 0.583 fine silver, 28-29 mm diameter, decorated edge, this specimen 6,66 g.
