Wurttemberg 1812-ILW 10 kreuzer KM-520
This specimen was lot 3548 in Künker sale 440 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,651 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WÜRTTEMBERG, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH Friedrich II. (I.), 1797-1806-1816. 10 Kreuzer 1812. Stempelschneider Johann Ludwig Wagner. Mit FRID · KOENIG auf der Vorderseite. RR Etwas justiert, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 194, Osnabrück 2011, Nr. 3781. (kingdom of Württemberg, Frederick I, 1806-16, ten kreuzer of 1812. Obverse: "FRID · KOENIG". Very rare, adjustment marks, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1812 only along with a ten kreuzer with the legend "FRIDERICH KOENIG VON WÜRTEMB" (KM 519). One convention thaler was 120 kreuzer. Frederick, who ascended the throne of Württemberg as a duke, was promoted to king by Napoleon in 1806. He did quite well out of Napoleon's reorganization of Germany and found his realm doubled in size. A timely switching of sides allowed him to keep his gains at the Congress of Vienna.
Recorded mintage: 26,000 (both types).
Specification: 3.89 g, 0.500 fine silver, 25 mm diameter, this specimen 3,78 g.
