Stack's Bowers 2025 NYINC sale, lot 38447

This specimen was lot 38447 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Weimar Republic. 3 Mark, 1930-D. Munich Mint. PCGS MS-64. Struck to commemorate the world tour of the Graf Zeppelin." This type celebrating the flight of the Graf Zeppelin was issued in 1930 from six mints. The proofs are rare. It is much more common than the regular issue (KM 74) and was accompanied by KM 69 (Vogelweide) and KM 70 (Rhineland).

Recorded mintage: 141,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 15 g, 0.500 fine silver, 30 mm diameter.
