Zwolle (1600) 1/2 stuiver
This specimen was lot 287 in Schulman auction 385 (Amsterdam, July 2025), where it sold for €80 (about US$113 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ZWOLLE. 1/2 Stuiver, z.j. (1600), Silver Gekroond stadswapen tussen waarde J - S. Kz. lang gebloemd kruis met stadswapentje in het hart, in de hoeken Z - W - H - S. RR. Rand iets rafelig. Echter voor dit zeer zeldzame type een net exemplar. Bijna zeer fraai. (city of Zwolle, undated silver half stuiver, circa 1600. Obverse: crowned city arms divide the value; reverse: long floriate cross with the city arms in the center. Very rare, edge nicks, however, for this very rare type, a fine specimen. Nearly very fine.)"
This obscure type is attributed to 1599 in Numista. Zwolle was part of the Netherlands, which by the end of the sixteenth century had secured de facto independence from Spain and the empire.
