Sincona sale 87, lot 4192

This specimen was lot 4192 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$673 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Vierteldukat 1751 (über 48), Zürich. Gutes vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Zurich, quarter ducat of 1751, Zurich mint, 1751/48 overdate. Good extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1718-45, 1748-53, 1756-61, 1767. It is likely the most common gold coin of this canton in the eighteenth century. The SCWC mentions the 1751/48 overdate seen here but awards it no premium.

Specification: 0.875 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 0.86 g.
