Zurich 1748 thaler Dav-1791
This specimen was lot 4686 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$435 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Taler 1748, Zürich. Stadtansicht. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Switzerland, city and canton of Zürich, thaler of 1748, Zürich mint, city view. Very Fine-Extremely Fine.)"
While city view thalers were struck in Zürich throughout the eighteenth century, this particular type is listed for 1748, 1751, 1753, 1756, 1758 and 1761. In 1798, the canton of Zürich was forcibly incorporated into the Helvetic Republic.
