Sincona sale 13, lot 2872

This specimen was lot 2872 in Sincona sale 13 (Zürich, October 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ, Zürich, STADT, Taler 1714. Fast FDC. (Switzerland, city of Zürich, thaler of 1714, choice uncirculated)."

This type was struck in Zurich 1713-17 and was one of a series of thalers struck throughout the eighteenth century. Many of the later issues were "city view" thalers. The obverse legend, "MONETA REIPUBLICAE TIGURINAE," means "coin of the Republic of Zurich."
