Künker sale 294, lot 3269

This specimen was lot 3269 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$4,044 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ, ZÜRICH. Stadt. Dukat 1646. In US-Plastikholder der PCGS mit der Bewertung AU 58. GOLD. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Goldpatina, vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Zürich, ducat of 1646, in PCGS AU-58 holder. Scarce in this quality, attractive example with fine gold toning, extremely fine.)"

This rare type is listed for 1646-50. Later types featured only one lion brandishing a sword.
