Zurich 1645 thaler Dav-4638
This specimen was lot 4635 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$693 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Taler 1645, Zürich. Nach links schreitender Löwe mit Stadtwappen. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand. (Switzerland, canton of Zürich, thaler of 1645, Zürich mint. Obverse: single lion facing left supports the city arms; reverse: crowned double headed eagle. Very Fine-Extremely Fine, Flan flaw on edge.)"
This type was struck 1622, 1624 and 1645. The other thaler of 1645, KM 56/Dav-4639 (two lions), is very rare.
